( closed ) a selfish decision
[ Haru was born with a rose-gold name on her right wrist, a shimmering Akechi Goro, with ever-shifting handwriting. First it had been in hiragana, as kids were wont to write, before shifting into kanji with strong, decisive strokes.
For as long as she could remember, the name had been her one constant when little else had been. The name had also been hidden behind her sweater sleeves or foundation, especially upon her matriculation into Shujin – and maybe that had been a selfish decision on Haru's part, to want a name that belonged to her and her alone.
(Father hadn't placed much stock in soulmates. Haru wondered if it had stemmed from Mom dying before she was old enough to remember, or if there was some other significant reason for her to cast hers aside.)
As she had been enveloped into the fold of the Phantom Thieves, she had gotten to learn the names residing on her friends' wrists - the way Ann blushed every time Haru read Ryuji's name, or the way boisterous Ryuji grew equally silent when everyone pointed out Ann's handwriting on his wrists. Even Morgana had a name, written in blocky English, though Morgana had yet to meet this mysterious 'Hope,' whoever it was.
Then the topic had switched to Haru, and as always, she decided to make a hasty exit. Best not to give them false hope or even worse, the false impression that her soulmate was the Akechi Goro, the Detective Prince that crossed paths with them. Haru couldn't remember if Akechi-kun even had a soulmate, to be honest. The media had tried and failed, on numerous occasions, to elicit a name.
The festival's winding down for the day, so she hadn't expected Akechi to stick around. Heck, she probably wouldn't have, if she were in his shoes - but they're the only ones in the classroom. Might as well take the opportunity to say hi, if only for politeness's sake. ]
Oh, Akechi-kun. [ she beams, taking a seat across from him; for the time being, the chairs have been re-arranged to resemble tables at a cafe. ] How've you been finding the festival?
