[Closed] New Days
[It's been a while since Kon's visited Iselia - a few months, to be more precise. After he and Tim figured out how to travel freely between the two worlds, he's been sporadically checking up on the place, claiming that Lloyd needs a helping hand (and who better than the Kid of Steel?). Anyone with half a brain meaning mostly Genis knows better, though: Kon just really wants to see Colette, dammit, and he's going to make this work.
However, since Zelos and Sheena took him seriously on the "helping hand" bit, he's been forced to split his time between Meltokio and Mizuho, repairing random bits and pieces and serving as a go-between. Today, he has the day off, and he's relishing every moment of it. Taking care to walk - not float! - he heads over to find Colette.
Of course, considering this is Iselia, and Earth could explode any minute from impending chaos, he's not too sure how much free time they'll have.]

She's currently helping at the church, just leaving when she catches sight of him, the clothing especially helping to make him stand out in comparison. There is a pause as she stares for a moment before her face lights up, rushing to close the distance as she almost trips in her haste before reaching for a hug.]
Kon! Welcome back!
no subject
[Her voice is enough to pull him back to reality, wrapping his arms tightly around her as he inhales her scent (one he's never been able to properly identify, even with his enhanced senses) - until now, it hadn't him that he was here. In Iselia. With his favorite girl in the entire universe.]
How was church stuff? [He finds it stuffy, especially after they'd figured out the truth with that Mithos kid, but if she enjoys it..] Everything went okay?
no subject
But right now, she's just relieved. Relieved to see him again and that he's obviously doing well. She can't help worrying sometimes. Of course even after admitting her feelings Colette is still a bit shy in expressing that affection for the most part. But he doesn't seem to mind, and even this much is more than she anticipated having, when she wasn't sure she would live past sixteen. Pulling back a little from the hug, she pauses at his questions. Well aware of how furious he was around the lies, how he isn't the most religious.]
It's all right. I mean, it's still...a lot for people to take in, but I figure they deserve to know the truth. What about you? Did you come straight here or were you in Tethe'alla for a bit first back from home?
no subject
After all, if Christians found out some deep dark secret about Jesus, Kon was pretty sure Earth would start WWIII.] Yeah, it's better that you let them know than to let them live with the lies.
I came straight from Smallville. [He grins, gesturing to a bag he's brought.] Ma made you and Lloyd some pie.
no subject
[Or, try to at least. Colette can only strive to make things better from here. To live and do all the things she never anticipated having a chance to before. There are still many things that need to be considered, but it's a work in progress and she's content enough for now. There's a blink and a small smile at the bag when he says that he brought pie.]
I see. We'll have to try some then! I was just on the way home anyway. I think Lloyd is visiting the school, so we can stop by there on the way.
[That and she's regained her sense of taste once more so she can enjoy food again. Even if she may not eat or sleep as much as she used to, she's no longer so affected with her Angel transformation.]
no subject
(It's just, the last time he tried, he slipped and mentioned Jesus - the Church of Martel, or what was left of it, had hastily decided that he was better off staying behind the scenes.)
He has to hold his tongue, because even though he doesn't need to eat to survive, he gets that feeling too well.] Yeah? We can drop by and see if he's in - and if not, I can just leave it with Dirk. There's waaay more pie where this came from.
no subject
There's a soft smile as she gives a nod, leading the way to the school. Colette stops and chats to the children, admiring their art on the walls - mostly Lloyd, or Lloyd and her in a few cases. But it seems they just missed Lloyd himself so she says goodbye and makes her way to Dirk's place with Kon. It's not so far out of the way from her own place.]
They really are proud. It's....a change from hearing the town banished Lloyd and Genis before.
[Not that Colette is angry about that. It takes a lot to get her worked up, but it's....perhaps a little confusing in a way. But nothing to really complain about when they've accepted her friends back into the fold and understand what they tried to do to help.]
no subject
[The story's one Kon wished he weren't so familiar with. He shakes his head fondly, just thinking of the townspeople.] As long as they realized they goofed up... Better late than never.
[Quickly, he knocks on Dirk's door, leaving the pie with him along with a message that Kon dropped by. The second Kon thinks they're out of hearing range, he can't help shaking his head.] Though it looks like our friend's one super busy guy. Busier than even me, and I'm traveling between worlds all the time.
no subject
[Even if she knows he was probably still intending on following her regardless when he knew she was leaving for her Journey. There's a reason she lied to him but all the same, there is a relief that he was there through it all with her.
Colette leads the way to Dirk's with him, dropping off the pie with a note. She's a bit quieter when Kon mentions how busy Lloyd is, trying to hide it with a slight shake of her own head.]
Well....even if we united the two worlds, there's still a lot we need to do. I'm sure he's still around somewhere or he had to leave quickly to help with something.
[Usually he's able to let Colette know and say goodbye but sometimes he can't and needs to leave a message with someone or leaves her a note at home.]
He wants to head out and collect all the exspheres. Maybe he heard another one was found. I've been with him once or twice when he's gone out looking for them.
no subject
[His tone's light, despite the seriousness of their conversation. He's helped Zelos enough to know that they've got a long road ahead of them, even though the worlds had been united and Mithos had been defeated.] But hey, it's no big. We'll catch him later - and in the meantime, I think I owe you a date. A real one, with a dinner and flowers and Ma's pie for dessert.
no subject
[Given she isn't entirely sure what the others might have told Kon while he's been over there, she figures it better to fill him in than have him confused over what she means. But all of that goes out the window at what he says next, she simply stops in place, eyes widening.]
A....a date?
[She never really considered the idea of one before. But that doesn't mean it to be a bad thing. Really, she should expect this sort of thing now they've admitted their feelings but somehow she never really thought of this. At least, not concerning herself. There's a wide smile that starts as she gives a nod before half holding to his arm.]
It sounds wonderful, Kon.
no subject
It had better sound wonderful, dummy. [He grins, his cheeks already flushed from the mere thought of what he's planned. Or semi-planned, because with their jobs, they could be called on duty at any moment.] I cleared my whole schedule just for the occasion.
You feel like leaving town? Or do you wanna stick around here a little longer?
no subject
[Colette's own cheeks tinge a bit darker, a little pinker than usual as she tries to reassure him. It's not that it doesn't sound like an amazing time. A great idea. It's just not something she ever anticipated being a thing where it concerns her specifically.]
You didn't have to. I mean, I know you're busy back home too. But...I don't really mind. Leaving here now or a bit later, I mean. If you want to go somewhere else we can. I'm just excited at the idea of this at all.
no subject
Second rule, I don't really care about leaving town - I'm not cooking, so we can grab dinner wherever. Where would you like to go?
[A genuine question: while Kon has his favorites in this new world, he hasn't lived here long enough to really know her favorite haunts.]
no subject
[It's close enough but not too overly far that they would need the Rheiards to get around. Travel isn't generally so much of an issue anyway given both of them can fly, though Colette tires a little easier than Kon does over longer distances. Far enough out of the way that they'd get some time alone, out of the desert itself near Triet.
There's a slight tilt of her head as she asks, once she gets over the initial slight embarrassment at being taken aback by the idea.]
/re-emerges on the other side of the world
Yeah, easily. [He pumps a fist in the air, willing himself to float as he glances towards Triet's direction. While it had been a while since his last visit, he wouldn't mind seeing it again - especially because of the food.
Oh, their food was one of his favorites (and he wasn't even sure why, because he wasn't picky about that kind of stuff). The company would be even better than usual too.] Hey, and don't sell yourself short. The desert can be pretty awesome at night.
[When he's not freezing half-to-death from it, anyhow.]
yay travel and jet lag and timezones.
She reaches a hand for his, savoring the chance at flight. She doesn't do it nearly as often, making use of the Angel powers like this. There's a light laugh though, and a sheepish smile at that. Compliments are still something she's much more free about giving than receiving, as much as she appreciates them. It's hard to undo years of being told she's so important and expendable that she was Chosen to die for the sake of everyone else and the shattered effects that had on her self esteem and confidence as a result. She's much more used to being a follower and going along with other's ideas than coming up with her own.]
I'll take your word for it. I'm not sure I really remember much about the desert myself outside of the Ruins.
[And the hole she made in the town. Oops.]
Did you want a hand with carrying the food?
it's the absolute worst :(
Nah, I think I've got it.
[And they're off! The atmosphere in Aselia - the name Lloyd had christened their world - feels so different from Earth that sometimes, Kon has to slow down and scrunch his whole face at the specks of mana he's inhaling along with everything else.
Mana keeps this world alive. He remembers, from all the times he pretended he was raised in this world and got 'As you remember, Conner...' speeches that helped him more than they realized. Mana keeps this world alive, but it sure tastes funny to someone with heightened senses.
By the time they reach Triet, he's kind of thirsty (and not in the metaphorical sense either).]
I can imagine. You'll get there though, Zi!
[Before someone else might interrupt their plans somehow. Colette can't help but savor the feeling of flying every single time. Especially when she doesn't do it nearly so often as Kon might back home. Of course she knows Lloyd can fly, and Zelos too, but they're also both busy themselves. Though of course she adores spending time with them when she can, it's not entirely the same as how she feels with Kon.
Some might say it is the allure of mystery where he is from another world entirely, but it isn't just that. He did so much to help her along the way. The small things, the little excitement at hearing more about his home when he opened up more, how strong he is yet he never flaunts it, simply uses it to help when necessary. Much the same way with her own developing powers the Angels granted her at each Seal. He's so patient with her and how much she still has to learn after her upbringing. She can't help the light giggle as he scrunches his face.
Colette simply revels in it. The mana, the clouds. It's different, but not overly so when she was able to somewhat adjust while in Tethe'alla previously. As they land, she pauses to look around. In the desert, it's unlikely they would really come across anyone. Raising a hand to keep some hair from her face, she turns to him.]
I'll help set things up.
[It's an offer, though she wouldn't be surprised if he says she can relax.]
i hope so ;;
[He tilts his head to the side, glancing around Triet as well. No one's noticed them land - a good thing, probably, considering their relative fame (Colette as the Chosen, Kon as her companion).]
I didn't get drinks, so you could grab those for us. I trust your judgment. [By which he means, he has no real preference. He drinks water the most, but he'll be pleased with wherever they go.] So, where do you wanna eat?
no subject
[Colette suggests, pointing over to a somewhat more sheltered area. Not entirely out of the way or private, but chances are people wouldn't really be coming over this direction anyway.Getting the drinks at least helps her feel useful and busy doing something to help while he sets things up. It doesn't take long for her to return with a couple of drinks - juice, given her sweet tooth and she can't help but smile as she approaches. The last time someone did anything similar was her birthday years back, so this is still new and special to her even if it might not seem as much a big deal. She sits down and joins him, handing him the drink.]
It's wonderful, Kon. Thank you.
oh wow nearly a month later, sob go me
When she returns, he can't hide the smile that's tugging on his face. Even the little things are exciting, when he sees them through her eyes. Taking the drink gently, he goes ahead and has a sip.]
No problem. [Since that was entirely force of habit, he has to amend himself:] I mean, I figured you deserved the night off. Work hard, play hard...?
No rush.
I suppose so. It's been a while since I took a proper break like this and didn't snack while helping out with things. It's...nice. To stop and enjoy it.
[Especially with him. Though admitting that sort of thing is still new to her and has her a little flustered at the though as she takes a sip and reaches for a plate.]
no subject
Yeah. I don't think I can really remember the last time I was doing nothing myself.
[It's a luxury he doesn't take for granted, either. While Ma made the pie, Kon made everything else - the salad, the sandwiches, and even a homemade pizza. His cooking's simple (he's no culinary genius like Genis, but he might've asked the kid for help) but still pretty yummy, especially when he sticks to fare he knows and loves well. Plus: he avoided green peppers this time.] Let me know if anything seems off.
no subject
[Not that she is chiding him for it. It's just something she's noted. And to be fair, she's not really one to talk either, keeping herself busy enough with the aftermath of it all. Colette appreciates the effort put in, savoring it, any food after that period of not being able to taste anything at all. She gives a smile, reassuring him as she takes to offered food he's served.]
I'm sure it's fine, Kon. It looks great!
[Especially without the peppers, yes. Even if there was that point where she just tried to eat whatever was in front of her for a bit. That didn't last so long and isn't so much a factor now. There's a pause as she reaches for some of the fingerfood, trying the sandwich first.]
no subject
Kon's on pins and needles, waiting and waiting for her to try it before he glances at the food and reaches for a sandwich (or three). Sure, he may be nervous about how it appeals - or doesn't appeal - to her tongue, but hey, he likes it, and that's... kind of important? ]
No matter how it tastes, I'm just gonna take pride in that it's not Raine's spicy cake.
[Because even he's bamboozled by that combination. Who let her in the kitchen again?]
no subject
[There's a knowing look at that but she can't help a giggle all the same because Raine's cooking is unfortunately rather infamous among the group after her first attempt had them swearing to take her off the roster. Even prior to that her attempts to make food to bring to class at school had her, Lloyd and Genis avoiding it. It was unfortunately too late to warn the others that tried it, but at least they learned from then.
She tries the sandwich, giving a smile and nod in approval.]
It's good! Even this is--I missed this, with the Seals.
no subject
If they weren't sitting down, he would've flipped in the air with excitement - so as it is, he'll settle for leaning in and kissing her on the cheek. There's no one around, so it isn't technically PDA. Technically.]
I did too. Man, even though I hated campfire cook-outs sometimes, it was great... [When they fight villains on Earth, they don't really cook together. There isn't that same sense of bonding because they have so much to hide, and yet with Colette and Raine and Genis and everyone, he could be himself without any worries.]
no subject
At least, when Genis was cooking we had pretty good dinners! But I'm not sure we'll have that again. Everyone is busy with their own responsibilities now.
[Which she understands, even if she does miss the group being together like that.]
no subject
[It's half a joke, because Genis is only maybe, what, a 1/16th of an inch taller? Kon also partially means it. Now that Colette's journey is over, they've mostly gone their separate ways, reconvening only for special occasions.]
It's like, we have to make time for each other, but it's not too bad. Just means I get you more to myself.
no subject
[After all, none of them exactly had ideal childhoods. Let alone the way things turned out now and in the aftermath of it all with Mithos and reuniting the two worlds once more. There's always work to be done. But he does get a half smile from her with that at least as she considers and munches her sandwich. Trying not to choke as she swallows when he says that last.]
M-mm. I guess so. Try look at the positives from it. Like this. Exactly!
