The Space-Time Crystal Meme.

(Only extremely loosely based off [ real world physics. ] This meme is a bunch of hooey for entertainment purposes and should not be mistaken as "scientific".)
What's a space-time crystal? These 4-dimensional "objects" are said to keep time perfectly. Forever. Even as the universe meets its untimely and simultaneously dramatic, soap-operatic and highly prolonged death. Think about it. A perfect timepiece which perfectly keeps time even as time (a relative subject to begin with) ceases to matter.

More than that, there's a small quantity of space-time crystals even more advanced than the rest. These specimens, because they interact with a numblingly vast quantity of particles scattered throughout the Whole Sort of General Mish Mash (WSOGMM), when activated, can perfectly recall any moment in time, anywhere in the universe, from any individual's point of view. Maybe an ant's view of a garden jungle as it returns from a scouting trip, maybe a politician as he prepares for and ultimately loses an election, maybe someone close to you living the same moment you've lived yourself. A single, perfectly remembered moment.

How you've found one hardly matters. Before you, glittering with its gently rotating ion rings is just such a crystal. Will you gaze into its depths, hand it off as a late birthday present to your lady friend, or simply walk away scratching your head? The choice is yours.

RULES:

1. Post with your character. (Duh!)
2. The person who replies will be responsible for supplying the memory your character witnesses. (Unless you really want to give the crystal away.)
3. Remember, this works much like a pensieve. Sort of. You can do whatever you like in the memory, but because it is only a record and not the real thing, anything you "change" will simply revert back to the way it was the moment you remember yourself.
4. As a note: the particles tend to have a sense of humor, so you may be able to interact with individuals inside the memory or view it alongside another person. (This is up to both players' discretion.)

[There's something heartwrenching about being back in Gotham City, no less with a certain pilot bro in tow. For the time being, Tim hasn't noticed Ginji - he's too busy staring at the scene of his father (Mr. Drake) casually lighting the candles for his birthday.

How is this even possible? His dad's dead. And yet the candles are lit and they're starting to sing...

Tim tries to look brave, for maybe a millisecond, before his lips curl downward and he immediately stares down at the ground.] This can't be real.

[Ginji isn't quite sure what's going on at first. He takes a few short strides forward, looking from the older Tim to the scene in front of them. Those people've got to be celebrating something important, right? There's singing and candles. He's not too familiar with religious ceremonies and fancy holidays, but this one is definitely something less rigid, more personal. He can tell that much.]

[And. Something about the way Tim says that causes Ginji to look back at him. The guy seems kind of upset.] What can't be real? ...Hey, are you all right?

[Oh. A complete stranger, here in his... whatever this place is. Tim stiffens, briskly turning to face Ginji and plasters on a convincing smile.]

What? Oh, yeah, I'm fine.

[He presses his lips together.] You're a friend of my stepmom, right? Or... [He gestures towards his dad.] I don't think I've met you before.

[Whether Ginji can sense the tension or not, he offers an encouraging smile in return.]

I figure I know pretty much everyone in town, and I don't think so either. My name's Ginji. Did you and your folks just move in?

[After a moment he motions at the scene before them.] By the way, what's going on?

[He blinks back surprise.] How can you know everyone in Gotham? The place's massive--- [It feels like they're having two different conversations, so Tim just shakes his head.]--massive enough that you could know, I guess. I've been around for a while, but my name's Tim.

[At the question, his lips curl up into a rueful smile.] It's my birthday party. The last one I had before ["before my dad died"] - before I headed off to college.

Gotham? [Ginji's expression makes it pretty clear he's never heard of anyplace called "Gotham" before.] No, actually I was talking about Sheridan...

[He scratches the back of his neck. This doesn't make a whole lot of sense, since he was clearly enjoying some down time at home just a minute ago.]

The last one you had, Tim? [Did they somehow get sucked into the Planet Storm or something? Mr. Asch had once mentioned off-handedly about being able to see things, but...] This is going to sound weird, but if it's your birthday from a while ago, wouldn't that mean we're seeing things that've already happened?

[Obviously.]

Sheridan? [That doesn't sound like any city he's ever been to. Might've been some small town...]

... Yeah, I think that's what's going on. We're either stuck in my mind, or we're visiting the past, or something different altogether. [His lips form a thin line as he watches his father light the birthday candles.

"Come on, Timmy, make a wish!"]

Whatever it is, I'm not sure I like it.
