making the guest list!
[It had to happen eventually. Bruce may love Lucrecia Crescent with his entire heart, but even that can't save him from the agony of making a guest list for their wedding. They ran in completely different social circles - he barely knew her friends, and vice-versa - so it made sense that they'd have to figure out who to cut and who to keep.
Only problem was, Bruce didn't really want to do this. He'd hire someone else if she weren't so insistent about doing it herself. So he's set a station at their dining table and asked Alfred to bring them tea and biscotti while they worked.]
We were planning to cap the wedding to around 250 people at most, right? I think any more would be outlandish. [It's more like big weddings bore him - how many of those people would really care for him, anyhow? They just wanted the free food.]

He flinches at the mention of going away, for only a millisecond, before he slowly nods.] Dick said he could handle the city, so I think we should be fine for a week. [Any more, and it'd be Bruce who would explode from a combination of restlessness and "must return to Gotham."]

Oh, good! I definitely trust him--not overly sure he trusts me, but that's ok.
[She forces a laugh. There's nothing overly adverse between them, but he seems standoffish sometimes. And even more stubborn than she is.]

Bruce smiles, though it's much more remorseful than before.] It takes a while for Dick to trust anyone. [More quietly, just in case the boys are overhearing this conversation:] Only when he caught the flu did his partner on the force - the girl he works with all the time - realize I was his dad.
[He's pretty sheepish about this! He hadn't realized he'd raised his kid to be that aloof.] So give him - and Tim - some more time. They'll turn around eventually.
no subject
Oh, it's--they're fine.
[Part of her still worries it's her: maybe they see something in her that they know is no good for Bruce? But her fiance's smile is reassuring.]
Much better than any child of mine could turn out, I'm sure.
no subject
If they ever give you trouble... [He doesn't want to finish that sentence, so he shakes his head.] Don't say that. You never know what your kid may end up like.
[It's weird, actually thinking about Dick and Tim as if they're his sons! Part of him wants to still call them his wards, but he's only fooling himself at this point.]
no subject
Ohhhh, no, I have a pretty distinct idea of what would happen.
[She smiles, shrugging.]
Really, it will work out. We just need a little more time, like you said.
[It would be... kind of nice if they could settle right in to being a family, but at the very least, she always had Bruce.]
no subject
Which we've got plenty of.
[Casually, he glances down at the list again to double-check a couple of names:] ... You are alright with Selina and Diana coming, right? [They were his ex-girlfriends, and while he's still on good terms with them both, he also knows that it's good to ask before he finalizes their invites.]
no subject
Of course!
They can help us reinforce that restraining order I have out on Hojo. [SMILE!]
[Oh, she wished she was kidding--though she was sure he was less interested in her and more interested in the research he claimed she'd stolen when she left. Had she told Bruce about all that yet? She couldn't remember.]
no subject
He smiles, though it's more of a smirk than a smile.] Indeed. Most of the League'll be here, just in case he tries to pull anything.
[The ones Bruce's closest to, at least - and the ones that actually know his secret identity. Everyone else can just read about it in the news.] Thanks. I know Diana's been especially looking forward to it.
[Mainly because Diana dated Bruce twice, realized it would head nowhere, and promptly dumped Bruce for a good chick flick. ... It was an embarrassing day for everyone involved.]
no subject
Oh, maybe I should have asked her to give me away--Barry is already being insufferable about it.
[Diana had been extremely frank with her about the whole thing--the candor was refreshing but intimidating. Either way, she felt a little for both Di and Bruce. She had hit a similiar epiphany with Vincent. Some things just don't function.
As for Barry, she actually pretty well adored him. While his work was basic compared to what she once did, the environment was easier to breathe in, and she was given more agency than she expected. It was nice to be trusted, even if she didn't think she could live up to it.]
Anyway, if you're not busy, we might start looking at menus for catering?
no subject
[To be frank, Bruce was still miffed about Barry being right for once. Barry had to practically BEG Bruce to go on a blind date with him and this 'cute girl he worked with,' because Barry had an inkling that she'd be right for Bruce. Lo and behold, it turns out Mr. Allen had known exactly what he was doing.]
I think I've got enough time for menus. What kind of food were you thinking about?
no subject
[She really can't believe she did that, honestly. But coming straight out of two bad relationships, romance had been the last thing on her mind--strange how things work out.]
[She shakes her head.] I don't know! We need a main course to build on, but the only safe meat I could think of was chicken--but we really need a vegetarian option, too. And we really shouldn't have anything too spicy--and I haven't accounted for common food allergies yet...
[Her voice was winding up the way it did whenever she tensed for one of her explosions--at least it was only the second meltdown this afernoon?]
no subject
Which is probably why he reaches for her hand and squeezes it half-way through her rambling.]
We can have it buffet-style. That way, we can have chicken and vegetarian without worrying about food allergies... and we could always have some lamb or goat meat. People don't seem to mind those as much.
no subject
[Trying to quash that dumb thought, she clears her throat, tightening her grip on him.]
That... sounds perfect.
[She laughs, back to pure happiness.]
What would I do without you?
no subject
Though it'd be better if we brought dessert and tea or coffee to people's tables. [That, he hopes, is something people won't make as huge of a fuss over.] Is that all the planning you've got for today? I should get back to work - I haven't made much of a dent in this case file.
no subject
Thanks for helping me, though, darling.

If you've got any last-minute things, I'll be in the Cave.
