Everything turned pink and a lot of it shrank and I lost most of the socks and there's soap still stuck in that load...

[Wow, what a mess. Asbel scratches his neck briefly, then goes over to the machine, trying to figure out if it's all the way off or not. He can't really tell with suds still streaming over the sides.]

I don't know too much about machines like this, but we can't give up just yet. First we turn it off, right? There should be a button somewhere...

[He glances back over his shoulder with a determined look.]

Come on. If we act now, we might still be able to save some of them!

[nozomiracle]

Ehh? Really? [Runs to turn it off and fish everything out!]

Yeah, I think we can do it.

[Asbel starts to reach into the machine to pull out some of the soapy clothing--then thinks better of it. It only takes being yelled at by Cheria once or twice to learn to leave a girl's things alone. Especially her clothes. He'll cast Nozomi an apologetic look, then fetch some extra laundry baskets.]

First we'll need to separate everything into groups. Do you remember if any of these were white? We'll need to keep those to themselves. There's a trick I learned at the academy that just might take some of the pink out.

Really? Okay!

[And sorting through soapy clothes. At least she usually remembers what's what.]

Yeah. It worked really well getting dirt out of my uniform, at least.

[Next, he'll go for a bucket and a mop - this is something he can handle.]

Um, and let's see... For the rest you're supposed to sort them into dark colors and light ones. And take out any materials that don't wash well. We'll try putting them in again in separate batches.

[nozomiracle]

So like what colours they are now or what colours they're supposed to be?

[windegarde]

Um... [That's a good question, actually.] Let's try with what colors they're supposed to be first.

Okay! Does anything else matter?

Yeah, one more, and that's the water temperature. If the water's too hot, it'll make stuff shrink down.

[nozomiracle]

I thought there would be only one temperature.

[windegarde]

No. Because there are different kinds of fabrics, right? Different materials wash better at different temperatures depending on how they were made.

[nozomiracle]

This is complicated...

[windegarde]

Yeah, it kinda is, huh? That's why I usually just let the maids handle the wash...

I'll go ahead and put these whites in some water. Then start mopping up. Think you can handle the others?

[nozomiracle]

Okay...

[Trying... not screwing up yet...]

[windegarde]

[Asbel runs some water in a nearby sink for the whites, scanning the shelves until he finds the solution he's looking for (it probably isn't called "bleach" on Ephinea, but surely this bottle that says something about "whiten your clothes like magic!" can't be all that different, right?) Yeah, he'll use that.]

[Leaving those to sit for a while, Asbel sets to work on the sudsy floor - give him enough time and it'll be shining like crazy.]

I hope most of this works.

Yeah, me too. And I think some of it might! [He offers her an encouraging smile.]

Do you have more clothes back at your place? I mean, it'd be pretty bad if they got ruined and you had to buy all new outfits.

[nozomiracle]

Yeah, but I put off the laundry for a long time.

[windegarde]

So a lot of it got washed today, huh? Is this the first time that machine's acted up on you? Maybe it needs to be looked at.

[He wrings out the mop and goes over the floor once more without dunking it to try and reduce the chances of one of them slipping.]

[nozomiracle]

I dunno, I haven't really tried laundry before.

[windegarde]

You mean this is your very first time using these machines or washing your clothes out or-- anything?

[He thought she'd done this before.]

I thought it would be easy.

[windegarde]

[Asbel rubs the back of his head. Sure, he's shrunk down a few shirts before, but aside from that, it mostly is easy...]

It'll be all right. Everyone makes a few mistakes their first time. [He goes to dump out the dirty water.] By the way, I'm Asbel Lhant. I kind of just moved in a little while ago.
